Blue brick wallpaper

Blue brick wallpaper mimics Staffordshire blue brick, a strong type of construction brick, originally made in Stallordshire, England. The real blue brick is made from the local red clay, which when fired at a high temperature in a low-oxygen reducing atmosphere takes on the deep blue color, as does look the blue brick wallpaper, and attains a very hard, impervious surface with high crushing strength. Blue brick and other brickwork were a key industry in the 19th and 20th centuries, and were so important they were designated as a reserved occupation during World War Two.

The blue brick depicted in the blue brick wallpaper here is also used as a general facing brick for decorative reasons, they have traditionally been "Class A" with a water absorption of less than 4.5%.
