Description
How come we have Blue Wood Wallpaper? Is there blue wood in reality? Where does the idea of blue wood wallpaper come from?
Yes there is blue wood obtained from the Mahoe tree indigenous in Jamaica. The Blue Mahoe is Jamaica’s national tree. It is indigenous to Jamaica and grows quite rapidly. Often attaining 20m and often used in reforestation efforts. Its botanical name is Hibiscus tiliaceus. Blue wood trunk, straight and with broad green leaves and hibiscus-like flowers.
Like the blue wood wallpaper, the ‘blue’ refers to the blue-green streaks that are visible in the polished wood. This gives it a distinctive appearance. It is often streaked with purple, metallic blue and olive hues. The wood has several attractive features. For one, it is hard, elastic, and very durable. Then when highly polished, it has the appearance of marble. For these qualities, it is prized for cabinetwork, furniture, house interior trim and craft items.
Architects, furniture-makers, designers, artists and wood lovers will find a charm in working with wood. Or with its imitation, the wallpaper. The wallpaper look has fine sanding and turning qualities, and a natural gloss. In some wallpaper designs there can be grey, green, black, blue and purple colors all combined in one piece. Just like the real wood. Growing conditions may be responsible for the color variations but this has not been proven.
Popularity of blue wood effect wallpaper
Mahoe is an excellent wood with a rich variety of colors and attractive grain. But surprisingly, very little mahoe is currently being produced anywhere else but Jamaica. Likewise blue wood wallpaper can vary greatly in color. For the real blue wood, the blue tone does not tend to endure for many years. The wood transforms over time to shades of browns, purples, grey, and blue-greens.
Just like we have many different shades of natural blue wood, so do we have different shades of blue wood effect wallpaper. Mahoe vary in color based upon where it grows. Some blue mahoe wood are quite brown. Others are blue, violet, light blue, steel blue, green and royal blue.

What Curtains go well with Blue Wood Effect Wallpaper
Choosing curtain colors will be very personal and there’s no right or wrong choice technically. It is all up to what you want your home to look like to make you happy. But here are some tips to guide you along.
Go for the same curtain color as the blue wood effect wallpaper, blending the two and making your room feel much bigger. Or choose a pattern in which the wall color features in the curtain. Going this route will also give you variety and choice when it comes to other accent colors in the room. For the curtains you can actually go one or two (but no more) shades lighter or darker. The eye will see it as virtually the same color as the wallpaper.
Complementary Color Curtains
These are the colors directly opposite of the blue wood effect wallpaper color on the color wheel. In this instance we’d recommend choosing a pattern that features a complementary color to your wallpaper. This is because the contrast of the wallpaper and curtain is great and solid color curtains could be quite intense. For example, yellow’s complementary color is purple. Having fully orange curtains against blue wood effect wallpaper wouldn’t look as appealing as a fabric that merely featured orange. Alternatively, you may have patterned wallpaper in which case a solid color curtain in a complementary color would be ideal.
