Description
A dark wall is quite a differentiator in interior projects. It is bold, but it is not popular. And that’s exactly where the fun of having a dark wall lives.
Even though it is not very common and usual, those who risk this idea do very well. The black wall gives elegance, sophistication, and a generous touch of personality and style.
Despite being considered a neutral color, the aesthetic effect of a black wall is a thousand times greater than that of its inseparable companion, the color white.
Advantages and disadvantages of a dark wall
Let’s start by weighing all the merits and demerits of such a dark wall design.
merits
- The dark background ennobles. Finishing materials look more expensive, interior details are more interesting. If you like light furniture, it is the thick color of the walls that will emphasize it best.
- Used with any other color, contrast is one of the biggest features and advantages of the black wall. So, if you are interested in composing a striking, bold, and personality environment, the black wall is a great choice.
- It’s practical. Snow-white or cream surfaces will lose their initial freshness over time. And stains will also be more pronounced and noticeable on light walls. But a dark wall cover retains its presentation longer.
- This design tells a story. Unlike the universal light finish that the majority chooses, and developers offer in turnkey apartments, it will say a lot about the owner. Black, grey, or bright surfaces are a non-trivial solution that shows your personality and speaks of a thoughtful choice.
- Versatility. Black, grey, and neutral brown go well with any other colors: light and dark, cold and warm.
demerits
- Saturated decoration visually narrows the space, and eats up part of the volume of the room. This is true – but at the same time, it adds depth and expressiveness to the interior. So it all depends on the shade, other elements, and the right lighting. And you can also not paint all four walls black, but make one accent wall.
- The design is not suitable for those who need a lot of light in their lives. This shortage will be especially strong in countries that have extremely cold winters when there is practically no sun in our latitudes. But if you like cozy rooms reminiscent of lairs, the dark wall option is for you.
- Black, grey, or dark blue walls are said to be claustrophobic. This, of course, is an exaggeration. But there is some truth in it. If you do not like enclosed spaces, it is better to refuse such decoration.
