Blue brick wallpaper mimics Stafford-Shire. A strong type of construction brick, originally made in Stafford-shire, England. The real blue brick is made from the local red clay. It is fired at a high temperature in a low-oxygen reducing atmosphere taking on the deep blue color. So does look the of wallpaper look. The heated red clay attains a very hard, impervious surface with high crushing strength. Blue brick and other brickwork were a key industry in the 19th and 20th centuries. And were so important they were designated as a reserved occupation during second world war.
The blue brick depicted here is also used as a general facing brick for decorative reasons. They have traditionally been “Class A” with a water absorption of less than 4.5%
